This session of the York Research Seminar series will see the launch of two new books published in 2022 on the archaeology of south-east Italy, with talks by the authors and the respondents. 
 
Archaeology on the Apulian-Lucanian Border, by Alastair and Carola Small (Edinburgh). The book aims to explain how the pattern of settlement and land use changed in the valley over the whole period from Neolithic to Late Medieval, taking account of changing environmental conditions, and setting the changes in a broader political, social and cultural context. 
 
The Making of a Roman Imperial Estate: Archaeology in the vicus at Vagnari, Puglia, by Maureen Carroll (York), contextualises the estate in its landscape and explores its economic and social impact on Apulia and beyond, giving us extremely valuable insight into the making of a Roman imperial property.
 
There will be refreshments after the talks.
