Event details

Hosted by Dr Jane Grenville, our former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, and Research Associate for the Department of Archaeology.

Jane has the happy task of revising the Yorkshire: North Riding volume of Professor Sir Nikolaus Pevsner’s iconic series of 46 books 'The Buildings of England'. She will talk about Pevsner, a German Jewish refugee architectural historian, his original project and the delights of her own work on the revised volume.

Jane's career at York has included being Head of the Archaeology Department 2001-6, PVC for Students 2007-15 and DVC between 2012 and 2015. In retirement she has returned to her first stamping ground and now, as then, is travelling the highways and byways of the North Riding, looking at lovely buildings and writing about them.
