Overview

Approach the interview as a matching process

Remembering that candidates are likely to form an opinion on the University based on their interview with you. Be welcoming to the diversity of candidates you will see and keep the tone of the interview friendly and engaging.

As well as preparing questions to ask candidates, be ready to answer questions from them - candidates need to be able to tell if they are a good fit for the role, the department and the University. Sell the role to the individual, but give honest and open answers so that they can also make an informed decision.

Having been interviewed, some candidates may indicate that they feel the role or the organisation is not right for them. It's better that this happens now rather than after an offer has been made to them.
