Advertising your vacancy
A good advert is clear, succinct, and should attract the right candidates to apply for the job.
Write your advert using our template. You can attach this when submitting your vacancy request or supply it later in the process.
Follow these principles when writing your advert:
- keep it brief: a limit of 500 words is in place but shorter adverts attract more candidates
- use bullet points to break up large chunks of text
- start with something that would make your ideal candidate want to apply
- provide a high level summary of the main duties so candidates understand what they would do on a day-to-day basis.
- don't introduce new criteria in the advert - summarise the most important four or five criteria, and make sure they are specific
- don't forget to include details of relevant benefits of working at the University
You can download an advert template to help you with this process.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We will add the University's positive action statements to all adverts.
However, recruitment is a great opportunity for us to show our commitment to our strategic principle of equality, diversity and inclusion. Discrimination and bias in job adverts can be subtle, so please refer to the equality and diversity guidelines if you are uncertain.
