1. Rates of pay for additional hours totalling less than 37 hours

1.1 Payment for additional hours is at plain time where the weekly contractual hours and overtime hours total less than 37 (the full-time week).

1.2 Where an individual (grade 1 to 5) works on a bank/public holiday as part of their contractual hours (up to 37 hours a week) they will be eligible for a bank/public holiday enhancement as described below. Further information can be found in the Principles for working and payment policy.

2. Rates of pay for overtime (additional hours totalling in excess of 37 hours)

2.1 Where weekly contractual hours and overtime hours total more than 37, the hours in excess of 37 are paid at:

3. Exceptions to overtime arrangements

3.1 Staff who work reserve hours in an aggregated hours scheme and hours worked as a result of stand-by arrangements are not eligible for overtime.

4. Eligibility for overtime

4.1 Overtime payments and arrangements are the same for all staff within grades 1 to 5, with the exception of those detailed above.

4.2 With one or two limited exceptions, there is no contractual entitlement to overtime working and authorisation must be given in advance by management.

5. Unsocial Hours Enhancement

5.1 A fixed sum payment (currently £7.37 an hour) for each hour worked between midnight and 6am, seven days a week

5.2 On public holidays the Unsocial Hours Enhancement is not payable. Instead, all hours worked on these days are payable as described in the tables at 1.2 and 2.1 above.

6. Variable Hours Enhancement

6.1 A fixed sum payment (currently £1.50 an hour) for each hour in the qualifying work pattern

6.2 To qualify, a working pattern must cover all 24 hours of the day as well as the full seven days of the week within a maximum 15 week rotation.

6.3 Not payable on hours worked as overtime in excess of 37 hours a week
