Reviewed and revised University's Equality Impact Assessment guidance and web pages
The E&D Office has reviewed and revised the University's Equality Impact Assessment guidance and web pages.
The revision underlines and expands on existing University policy, which recommends completion of EIAs where there are new, or proposed changes to existing, working practices, processes, policies, or procedures. It is particularly important during the current period of significant change in the University that full consideration is given to any potential impact on groups of staff or students from particular groups, including those with protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.
New resources provide greater clarity on when and why EIAs should be completed, and more detailed guidance and information to help staff complete them. Revised guidance and resources now include:
Revised and expanded EIA Guidance page and the more detailed Guidance
document: comprehensive guidance on how to complete EIAs at the University
of York.
New EIA Screening Form: to help staff decide whether an EIA is necessary, and record the reasons for their decisions.
New EIA flowchart to accompany the Screening Form: to enable staff to make speedy and informed decisions as to whether an EIA is likely to be necessary.
Revised and expanded EIA Full Assessment Form: to help staff complete a full EIA assessment and record their considerations and actions. This also asks staff to plan a review of their EIA at some point in the future, to see whether their actions and mitigations worked as expected.
New EIA Review Form: to help staff look back on their EIA at a future date, consider what happened in reality, and decide whether there are any further actions needed to counter any unforeseen outcomes.
New EIA Repository to enable staff to share their EIAs with others, save time and reduce duplication, improve EIA quality, and collaborate with others.
We aim to supplement the initial publication with further guidance, information, resources, pre-recorded presentations, and case studies.
