New rate to be implemented on 1 April 2024
The University became an Accredited real Living Wage employer in 2021. To support our continued commitment we will be making a minor change to the University's pay structure to reflect the most recent uplift announced by the Living Wage Foundation.
The new real Living Wage rate is £12 per hour and employers have until May 2024 to implement this. The University will be applying the new minimum rate with effect from 1 April 2024.
The current spine point 12 on the University pay spine is slightly less than £12 per hour, as hourly rates are calculated by dividing annual salary by 37 (full time contracted hours) and 52.143 (the number of weeks in the year). The actual hourly rate for spine point 12 is £11.996 (rounded to £12). In order to remain accredited, the University will be removing spine point 12 with effect from 1 April 2024.
Colleagues in current grade point 1.2 will move to spine point 13 and see an increase in salary. They will be on grade point 1.3 and will retain their existing increment dates. Colleagues affected will receive a letter to their home address with details of what these changes mean for them.
We have worked closely with our Trade Union colleagues to agree to these changes that will affect colleagues in grade 1.
Where this change impacts Casual, Apprentice, Intern and Temp Pool rates they will be uplifted accordingly with effect from 1 April 2024.
