The Team leader/supervisor programme is aimed at first line managers, team leaders, and supervisors who are directly involved with day-to-day management and work allocation.

About the programme

The programme lasts for 15 months and represents a time commitment of 6 hours per week, which must take place in (paid) work time.

These 6 hours - called 'off the job' time - will be spent as follows:

  • One day per month in person, on campus, focusing on these core modules:
    • Awareness of self
    • Management of self
    • Decision-making
    • Leading people
    • Managing people
    • Building relationships
    • Communication
    • Operational management
    • Project management
    • Finance
  • Online learning between modules, to help consolidate the learning and prepare for the next module
  • Engaged in work at either team, faculty/directorate or university-level work. This work will be new to the learner and enable them to build their university profile, support important and strategic activities and compile evidence for their assessment portfolio
  • One session (around 2.5 hours) per month with their Action Learning Set
  • Learner reviews and tripartite meetings, with their POD tutor and manager

Learners must attend all components and sessions of the programme.

Upon successful completion of the programme, learners leave with a formal, nationally-recognised qualification, which provides evidence they have the knowledge, skills and behaviours to perform well as a people manager.

Notice:

All learners will remain on their existing terms and conditions of employment because they are accessing this apprenticeship programme as part of their continuing professional development (CPD).
