Professor
To become a Professor you must show outstanding intellectual distinction and internationally recognised and sustained excellence in research and scholarship:
This may take the form of:
- Publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, or other forms of output appropriate to the subject
- Invited presentations at major international conferences
- Significant and sustained success in obtaining research grants and other funding
- Successful supervision of a significant number of research students
- Prizes and awards, appointments to national or international bodies, or other forms of external recognition
- High achievement in knowledge transfer/innovation
- The wider impact of research contributions beyond the furtherance of academic knowledge
Sustained excellence in teaching and the promotion of learning:
- Excellent feedback from students/peer observations/external examiners
- Invited examiner at other institutions
- Contributions to the development of teaching quality within the University
- Leadership in curriculum development and course design; innovations in teaching, learning and assessment methods and/or student access
Leadership involving a high level of responsibility:
- Positions of responsibility within a department or research unit
- Contributions to University committees and working groups etc
- Successful management of budgets, physical resources or staff
- Encouragement of research among staff and suitably qualified students or the organisation and development of teaching
