Academic career paths
Lecturer
Lecturers are expected to make an effective and continuing contribution in all three areas:
Research and scholarship
- an output of good quality publications
- the supervision of research students
- the holding of a number of competitive research grants
- enterprise, innovation and other activities contributing to knowledge transfer with business, the public sector and the community
- presentations at national and/or international conferences.
Teaching and the promotion of learning
- good quality teaching, learner support (including supervision) and assessment and feedback practices
- commitment to professional values
Other forms of service
Effective administrative competence and a willingness to work collaboratively with colleagues at tasks at departmental or University level (for example, involvement in admissions procedures, examining, student course placements, acting as a year tutor, secretary to the Board of Studies and/or as an active member of University committees).
