News | Posted on Friday 17 November 2023

Calling students! Applications to present at the annual Student Sustainability Research Conference 2024 are now open.

The Student Sustainability Research Conference 2024 (SSRC24) brings together students, staff, partners, collaborators, and members of the public to experience the diversity of undergraduate and postgraduate student sustainability research that reflects any aspect of positive social, economic and/or environmental sustainability.

Applications to present at the annual Student Sustainability Research Conference 2024 at the University of Leeds are now open. This opportunity is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students from across Yorkshire and Humber to share research and projects that link to any of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. We particularly welcome research that addresses any of the six themes:

  • Climate Resilience and Adaptation;
  • Net Zero Carbon;
  • Justice, Equality, and Inclusivity;
  • Protection of Nature and Biodiversity;
  • Education for Sustainable Development;
  • Innovation, Industry and Infrastructure

You can share your work in any format - whether that’s a presentation, poster, exhibition, or performance - we’d love to hear from you. You’ll receive invaluable experience presenting in a professional conference environment, and the opportunity to inspire and be inspired by students across the region.

Deadline for applications: 3 December 2023

Date of conference: 6 March 2024 (University of Leeds)

A carbon neutral event

As part of the University of Leeds' University Climate Plan, they delivered the 2023 SSRC as the first carbon neutral Student Sustainability Research Conference. They will continue to actively reduce and track all carbon emissions associated with every aspect of the 2024 conference including energy, catering and transport. The emissions associated with the event will be balanced using academically verified offsetting projects to deliver carbon neutrality.

The Student Sustainability Research Conference will act as a ‘Living Lab’ to test approaches to reducing the emissions associated with events. They will be sharing what they learn from this process across the University of Leeds and with wider partners, to inform future events.
