We’re excited to share another successful Green Impact team project with you today. Green Vanbrugh within Vanbrugh College have recently been awarded gold in this year’s Green Impact Awards for their project focusing on engaging students in sustainability best practices.

We asked the team to share more about their project. Read their story below to find out more.

Tell us a bit about your Green Impact project.

Our project aim was to provide accurate information on sustainability and offer practical tips on how students can practice sustainability. We used social media and the weekly college newsletter to disseminate this information to students. In addition to weekly lessons, we created a list of tips to be shared in all kitchens in the new year to accompany existing posters on how to recycle rubbish properly, which has been a challenge previously. We also ensured our weekly meal at the college 'Make Soup Eat Soup' was vegan, which was hosted at The Warren every Monday during term time.

Finally, we hosted a Panel Discussion on Sustainability at the University in partnership with YUSU, College Environment and Ethics offices and Sustainability Society leaders. This was an opportunity to learn about what the University is doing with regards to sustainability.

What were your successes and outcomes?

Our project has seen a number of successes, including:

  • A positive social media engagement and the opportunity to provide useful content that will be relevant today and in the future.
  • We were able to create collaborative opportunities across different sectors of the University, and find out what they are doing with regards to living sustainably.
  • Our weekly vegan meal, run by the college, helped provide free nutritious meals for students.

What does your team hope to do in the future?

The Green Vanbrugh team hopes to engage more students within the Vanbrugh College community and beyond and help/encourage students to live more sustainably through simple practical practices.

A huge thanks to Green Vanbrugh sharing their Green Impact project with us. We look forward to seeing the team's progress in the coming year!
