Responsibilities
The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategy:
- oversees the international strategic business development of the University's activity
- forges international partnerships to broaden the reach and impact of our research and teaching
- works with our Deans and other PVCs to coordinate our international engagement.

Ambrose says: “The purpose of the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Strategy is to act as a catalyst for new types of international interaction, through the academic work that we do here at York.”
About Ambrose Field
Ambrose has worked since the late 1990s on creating new international partnerships and has published on leadership and education innovation, the role of AI in a human context, and the societal importance of creativity.
Prior to this role, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for five years. Working as a member of the executive board of the University, he sponsored the creation of three new academic schools.
Ambrose has a passion for design which is societally relevant and is leading the development of the new York School of Architecture, based on sustainability and social justice foundations.
Ambrose also chaired the design and build project for two new student residences, David Kato College and Anne Lister College, through to completion in 2022.
Earlier in his career, he served as an industrial consultant to two technology multinationals, acted as a member of AHRC peer review college and panels, and worked on the board of professional bodies in the arts. He holds a PhD from City, University of London.
