Tell us a bit about your background
Born and raised in South London to two Ugandan parents, moving to York was a new and exciting experience that has widened my world view. Fortunately growing up my parents kept me connected to my culture by visiting family in Uganda which has significantly influenced who I am today.
Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?
The Student Expert Panel holds a special position within the university as an advisory body and I wanted to be a part of this unique opportunity.
I also wanted the chance to connect with students from different backgrounds and collaborate on new and exciting projects that can continue and accelerate the work of the panel.
While I was initially unsure of what it meant to be a ‘student expert’ I now know that it simply means articulating your personal experiences in a manner that aids our community and any initiative that is a force for progress is something that I want to be a part of.
What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?
Outside of my course I am involved with the University’s Lacrosse club and Central Hall Musical Society in which I am on both committees as Social Secretary and Events Officer.
Recently I took the position of Department Community Coordinator for the TFTI strand of the new School of Creative Arts and Technologies which is another role where I create events for people (I’m starting to sense a theme).
When I’m not consumed by my on campus activities I love watching and reviewing theatre, cinema and tv series, and thoroughly enjoy travelling abroad with friends and family.
