Tell us a bit about your background

I grew up in France, in a British-French household. My heritage involves more than Britain and France, but I usually keep it to this for simplicity’s sake. The multiplicity of influences in my upbringing is what made me interested in Education as a subject of study and is what brought me to study here at York. It’s also the reason I joined the Student Expert Panel!

Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?

Having a mixed-background heritage means growing up with many different influences all contributing and sometimes competing to build who you are. This makes the journey to forge your identity complicated and confusing, and I wanted to shine a spotlight on the fascinating complexity but also struggles of people who can’t explain where they’re from in one word.

What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?

Outside of my studies, I play ping pong and tennis, and am trying to dance for the first time in my life. I love reading fantasy, and sometimes go so far as to write and develop the world I first created in primary school! Other than that I find a lot of healing in listening to music. And of course I love languages.
