Tell us a bit about your background
I am an international student from Egypt originally, but I live in Abu Dhabi in the UAE.
Why did you want to get involved with the Student Expert Panel?
I was first introduced to the Student Expert Panel during the second middle ground event. I was inspired by the common goal of inclusivity and raising awareness the panel seemed to have. As an international student in York, I wanted to get involved with the Student Expert Panel to make sure I can represent international students and create a stronger sense of community for all students from different walks of life.
What are you involved with at York, and what are you interested in outside of your studies?
At York, I am an International Student Ambassador and a member of the Welcome Team which have been wonderful ways for me to engage with students from various backgrounds.
I am interested in research and education within medicine. As a Laidlaw scholar and through that I conducted research on the properties of specific immune cells in a group of blood disorders that lead to leukaemias. I was also an intern with World Vision in Zambia where I worked with the NGO to raise awareness on issues of maternal health and safety. I also conducted a career building and public health awareness workshop for high school students in rural villages within the southern province of Zambia.
I enjoy yoga and hiking. Being in nature always puts me in a good mood.
