How to be a white ally

Even if you haven't experienced or witnessed racism yourself, you can learn more about racism and racial inequality, and become an ally to those who are affected.

Some of the information in this section is adapted from Imperial College London's webpages, with their generous permission.

  • Listen to what black people and those from minority ethnic backgrounds have to say; listen to their experiences.
  • Promote the work of black people, within your teaching and research, to friends and family, on social media.
  • Learn about racism and racial inequality.
  • Acknowledge your own privilege. We all have it. Understand and take responsibility for yours.
