Jan Hardman
I am Jan Hardman (nee Abd-Kadir), Professor of Language Education and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. With over 25 years of experience working in the HE sectors internationally, I have gained a deep understanding of the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion in higher education.
As a BAME academic who has lived and worked in Malaysia, Canada, Australia, the USA and the UK, I recognise the unique perspectives and enriching experiences that people from diverse language, cultural, religious, racial, educational and nationality backgrounds bring to the HE educational context. Therefore, I am committed to promoting equity, diversity and inclusion professionally and personally. For instance, I am Chair of the Staff Race Equality Forum and Steering Group and a member of the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Race Equality Coordination Group, and Pay Gap Working Group (Gender, Ethnic and Disability). In these roles, I champion the EDI agenda and internationalisation of HE learning, teaching, research and impact activities.
As a global citizen, I thrive in social and professional environments that encourage and respect alternative ways of seeing, thinking, saying and doing things. I believe that interactions and experiences brought about by diversity, equality and inclusion can enrich everyone.
