What does EDI mean to you? Why is it important to you?
As a mixed race individual who has immigrated twice in their life (Colombia to US; US to UK) I have faced various forms of disadvantage based on how I look and speak. It is important to me that other individuals aren’t treated differently based on protected characteristics.
How are you involved in EDI activity at York?
I am the Deputy Chair of the School of PET EDI committee as well as a member of the Faculty of Sciences Athena Swan Committee, the Race Equality Coordination Group, the Staff Race Equality Forum and the Co-Chair of the Staff Race Equality Forum Operations Group.
Name someone who inspires you in relation to equality?
Richard and Mildred Loving
