Outdoor spaces
Our covered external spaces are an extra addition to campus, offering additional covid safe spaces for a variety of uses.
The spaces are versatile and suitable for teaching and group work as well as being ideal for small study groups, social gatherings and events.
How to book your space
Spaces are available for booking through the Facilities Helpdesk web portal, under the option “Book a room”. You can search for them easily by selecting “outdoor space” in the category field.
If you have any questions, email: roombookings@york.ac.uk.
FAQs
Students and staff can book the outdoor spaces from 8am until 10pm.
You should book at least two working days before you need the space.
All spaces are equipped with high quality WiFi via eduroam.
The furniture is arranged to provide enhanced distancing of 3m between groups and can be safely used in line with current government guidelines. In some of the areas it can also be removed completely to provide a wide open space.
The areas have been designed to be accessible to all students and staff with space for wheelchair users and suitable furniture in place.
Like most of our bookable spaces, we have a few principles users need to follow to ensure that we can all get the most from them:
- Tidy up after yourself and take any rubbish away with you
- Keep the furniture as it was configured when you arrive
- Avoid making excessive noise
- “Noisy” events, such as those using PA systems or raised voices, are not permitted before 5pm Monday to Friday
- Do not exceed the capacity of the space or table
- Keep exit routes clear
- Report any issues so we can fix them
- Keep your personal belongings safe and with you
- Don’t feed the wildlife!
- Complete an Event Management Form if your event needs one
- The spaces are not licensed and the sale of alcohol is not allowed
If the space is abused, damaged or needs additional cleaning you may be charged or prevented from making any bookings in future.
