Inclusive Impact Awards 2023
The winners and nominees for the Inclusive Impact Awards 2023 have now been announced.
The Inclusive Impact Awards showcase and celebrate individuals, teams and initiatives that are already advancing purposeful change at York around EDI - from research projects and inclusive education practices to collaborations, partnerships and community-building initiatives.

This year's awards event took place on 21 November 2022 and followed the inaugural awards event last year, which marked the launch of the University's EDI Exchange. Find out more about last year’s Inclusive Impact Awards, including the nominees, highly commended nominations and winning entries.
Award categories
Find out about the eight categories in the 2023 Inclusive Impact Awards:
This award recognises a successful project or initiative that demonstrates a new, or innovative approach to promoting and advancing inclusivity within an area of the University of York. This could be an activity within a particular Academic Department or Professional Service, across a Faculty or Directorate or within a smaller team, network or collective. We are particularly keen to receive nominations in this category for initiatives that are taking an intersectional approach to inclusivity.
This award recognises a group of staff and/or students that has played a strategic, bold and proactive role in advancing inclusivity at the University of York and a positive impact in terms of building a more inclusive university community. This could be a recognised staff or student network, a formal society or a grassroots collective.
This award recognises an individual, a group or a particular activity or initiative that has advanced social inclusion for an identified, marginalised or under-represented group. This could be an activity that has had a positive impact on the staff and student community at the University of York, but it could also be an activity that has improved social inclusion more broadly for marginalised or under-represented groups across the city or beyond.
This award recognises an individual, a group, an initiative or a project that is promoting and advancing our disability inclusion agenda at the University of York. This could be someone who has been a champion for disability inclusion, a group or project that has had a positive impact on university practice or policy, an initiative that has addressed an identified challenge for this community, an event that has raised awareness or brought people together - anything that has lead to positive change, making the University of York a more inclusive place to work and study for our disabled staff and students.
This award recognises an individual, a group, an initiative or a project that is promoting and advancing our LGBTQ+ inclusion agenda at the University of York. This could be someone who has been a champion for LGBTQ+ inclusion, a group or project that has had a positive impact on university practice or policy, an initiative that has addressed an identified challenge for this community, an event that has raised awareness or brought people together - anything that has lead to positive change, making the University of York a more inclusive place to work and study for our LGBTQ+ staff and students.
This award recognises an individual, a group, an initiative or a project that is promoting and advancing our race inclusion agenda at the University of York. This could be someone who has been a champion for race inclusion, a group or project that has had a positive impact on university practice or policy, an initiative that has addressed an identified challenge in this space, an event that has raised awareness or brought people together - anything that has lead to positive change, making the University of York a more inclusive place to work and study for our staff and students from minority ethnic groups.
This award recognises an individual, a group, an initiative or a project that is promoting and advancing our gender inclusion agenda at the University of York. This could be someone who has been a champion for gender inclusion, a group or project that has had a positive impact on university practice or policy, an initiative that has addressed an identified challenge in this space, an event that has raised awareness or brought people together - anything that has lead to positive change, making the University of York a more inclusive place to work and study for all genders.
This award recognises an individual member of our University community who has been a catalyst for change and has led bold, innovative, and impactful activity that has and is advancing York’s inclusivity agenda. This award will go to someone who has gone above and beyond and shown continued outstanding commitment to building a more inclusive University community for our staff and students.
