Small change, big impact: Use energy wisely
We’re embarking on an exciting journey to revolutionise how we use energy across our university community. We’ve set ourselves an ambitious target: saving over 1,500 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent in just 12 months. We’re asking everyone within our community to make our own small changes when it comes to energy usage so that collectively we can make a big impact on our sustainability. Please get involved.

Do you qualify for a student parking permit?
If you bring your car to campus, please don’t park inconsiderately in residential streets close by. Check if you qualify for a student parking permit and find out about other ways to travel to campus.

1. What’s your experience of accommodation in York?

We're taking part in research aimed at making the future housing experience of students in York better. Alongside Fusion Student, York St John Students’ Union, the NHS, and others, we're gathering insights to understand the current housing landscape and explore ways to enhance off campus and private housing options in York. Please share your student housing experiences by completing a brief survey. Your feedback will be presented to York City Council, helping to shape future accommodation solutions in our city. There’s also a chance to win a £250 voucher. Survey deadline: 28 April

2. Ace numerical reasoning tests and boost your employability

Are you aiming to secure a placement, graduate scheme or internship? If so, excelling in numerical reasoning tests is crucial - they are a common assessment tool used by many large companies. Our upcoming workshop, Numerical Reasoning for Employability on 23 April will equip you with the knowledge and skills to ace these tests and enhance your employability prospects. We also have an online guide to numerical reasoning, offering further practice and guidance.

3. Become a Green Impact auditor

Volunteer to become a Green Impact auditor to conduct sustainability audits of University departments, reviewing their sustainability activities and providing feedback. You will receive a half-day IEMA-approved training course to learn about sustainability issues and how they apply to the University, as well as develop professional and analytical skills. No previous experience is necessary. Volunteer training and audits take place on campus on 1 May. Sign up to be a Green Impact auditor.

4. Volunteering in schools: applications now open

As we celebrate 30 years of York Students in Schools (YSIS), why not join over 14,000 students who have volunteered as part of this award winning scheme and apply for a YSIS Semester 1 placement in local schools and nurseries across York next academic year? It’s a great way to gain valuable experience and make a positive impact on the lives of young learners. Application deadline: 21 April. Want to progress into teaching or other related professions? Register for our YSIS Plus workshops to develop your knowledge of specific educational topics.
