Goodricke College, the first college to be constructed on Heslington East opened its doors to its first intake of students in October 2009.
The new 600 bed college provides a mixture of accommodation including standard and en-suite study-bedrooms, in corridors, flats or town-houses, all with shared self-catering kitchens. The Nucleus building houses an on-site launderette and common rooms.
Plans for the college were drawn up in consultation with representatives from the original Goodricke College on Heslington West and the Students' Union. The outward facing façade of the college is clad in shades of green, the college’s colour, to blend naturally into the landscape and reflect the College's commitment to sustainability. Warm 'earthy' hues were chosen for the interior courtyards to complement the seasons Spring, Summer and Autumn.
Built by Shepherd Construction Ltd, the College was constructed using a timber-frame construction method and wood sourced from well-managed forests.
